Joanna and Chip Gaines to continue to grow Magnolia brand

Joanna and Chip Gaines, the design and construction duo whose popular home reno and retail empire have put Waco, Texas, on the map, announced Tuesday that HGTV's "Fixer Upper," which accelerated their notoriety, will end after the current season.

Through four seasons, the cameras have followed the good-natured parents of four (who once claimed they don't even own a television on which to watch their show) as they renovated neglected or outdated homes, often for young couples or empty-nesters, including some clients relocating to Waco from what they grumbled were crowded and expensive California and Colorado. Season 5 of "Fixer Upper," and its sister production, "Behind the Design," are set to premiere in November, said HGTV, a property of the Scripps Networks(SNI)

"We would be foolish to think we can go and go and fire on all cylinders and never stop to pause. Our family is healthy and our marriage has honestly never been stronger," the couple said in a blog and video on their corporate site (https://magnoliamarket.com/our-last-season/). "This has nothing to do with a fraudulent skincare line or anything else you'll inevitably read. This is just us recognizing that we need to catch our breath for a moment."

The pair said the decision to end the series stemmed from a desire to focus on their businesses and family. Past seasons have included the couples' decision to renovate a grouping of abandoned silos in Waco to greatly multiply their retail footprint, called Magnolia Market at the Silos; it has become a tourist destination in the city that's also home to Baylor University.

Magnolia's reach has expanded outside of Texas. Target Corp.(TGT) announced earlier this month that it is launching an exclusive home and lifestyle brand, called Hearth & Hand with Magnolia (http://www.marketwatch.com/story/target-launching-exclusive-brand-with-hgtv-stars-chip-joanna-gaines-2017-09-13), with the couple.
