Award recognizes leaders in pharmaceutical field

For his dedication to propel the pharmaceutical field forward, Ed Cohen, PharmD, FAPhA, executive vice president, Pharmacy Advocacy, Pharmacy Times®, was recognized with the prestigious Bowl of Hygeia award, Illinois. This significant award recognizes members of The American Pharmacists Association, in all 50 states and Puerto Rico who have displayed strong leadership in their communities by devoting their time, talents and resources, and had a key role in advancing pharmaceutical research.

Accepting the award, Dr. Cohen said, “I am honored to receive this outstanding award. I would like to thank the Illinois pharmacy association for all the good work they do and for thinking of me for this award. Together, we will propel the field of pharmacy.”

Dr. Cohen received his B.S. in pharmacy from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a PharmD from Midwestern University, Chicago College of Pharmacy. Dr. Cohen’s vast pharmaceutical knowledge comes from his experience as the owner of an independent pharmacy for many years. Prior to joining Pharmacy Times®, he was the senior director of the Clinical Services Department at The Walgreen Company. At Pharmacy Times®, Dr. Cohen is responsible for establishing and maintaining strategic partnerships with retailers, and acts as a company liaison to community pharmacy.

The Bowl of Hygeia award recognizes outstanding pharmacists who have dedicated their lives and efforts not only to the profession but also the community through their philanthropic efforts. The award was established in 1958 by E. Claiborne Robins, Sr. and is presented annually to state pharmacy associations. The award is made up of a bowl, which represents a medicinal potion and a snake that represents healing. Today, the bowl is recognized around the world as a symbol for the pharmacy profession.
