Also known as the purchase group with respect to securities. A group of investment dealers who act as underwriters in the purchase of new issues for resale to the investment public. They incur any risk or losses that may be associated with the sale of the securities. The underwriting group differs from the "selling group" who are responsible for the actual distribution of the securities.
