Delayed Opening

The postponement of trading of a security on a stock exchange beyond the normal opening because of market conditions.

The officials of the exchange postpone trading of an issue if they feel conditions warrant a delay. Such conditions might include an unusual volume of buy or sell orders, an imbalance of buyers or sellers, or pending corporate news that require review.
