How do I know if I am a free or premium member?
When you click on the "Membership" link in the top right corner of the page, you will
be directed to a page with the benefits of your membership type. At the top of that page, you will
see either "My Premium Membership" or "My Free Membership." Another way that you
can tell is to look at the button next to the "Log Out" button when you are logged in. If that
button says "Premium" you are a Premium Member. If it says "Register" you are
currently a Free Member. |
|
What are the benefits of Premium Membership?
To identify what is available in the Premium areas of Morningstar.com, simply look for links
designated by a "+" sign. The Premium site is actually integrated into the Free site.
Premium Membership grants you full access to all areas of Morningstar.com.
The benefits of a Premium membership include:
- Access to the one page, print-perfect Morningstar Analyses which are available for mutual
funds and are free for Premium members.
- The Morningstar Portfolio X-Ray: allows you to check for economic sector, investment style,
world region exposure, expenses, asset allocations, and key financial performance statistics
totaling nine additional screens than those available with the Free membership.
- Premium Fund/Stock Screener: a powerful screening tool that helps you narrow your stock and
fund choices quickly and in a more detailed process than the Basic selectors on the Free site.
- Detailed Reports: access to the Morningstar Analysis. Get Morningstar analysts' reports
for over 3,800 stocks and mutual funds. Read about whether a stock or mutual fund is a good investment
and for whom.
- Daily Portfolio Alerts: succinct e-mail reports that alert you when there are significant changes
in your holdings and help you gauge the time to buy and sell.
- Unbiased News and Views: updated financial and market news; Morningstar analysts' takes on
stocks, funds, strategies, and events.

Where can I find changes to my registration agreement?
By using and/or registering with Morningstar.com, you implicitly accept the membership agreement. If there
are any substantive changes to the agreement, we will post them in the Membership area. |
|
Why didn't you respond to my e-mail message?
We do our best to respond to e-mails in a timely manner. In fact, Premium members will receive a response
within 24 hours (1 business day) of their e-mail. Free Members will receive responses within 3 business days
of their inquiry. There are many potential reasons why you did not receive a response. One may be that
Morningstar has an incorrect e-mail address on file for you. Another may be that your e-mail account filtered
our response to a 'junk mail' folder. See the answer to this FAQ
for ways to troubleshoot the problem. |
|
Can I become a Morningstar.com Member if I don't live

Yes! Our site is available to non-US residents. When you register, simply leave the Zip Code box that
is part of the Required Field blank, but fill out all the other Required Fields. Make sure to go to the
Optional information and fill in the Country and Postal Code. Click Submit at the bottom of the page. |

How safe is my portfolio information on Morningstar.com?
At Morningstar.com, we're very aware of concerns about the safe transfer of information over the Internet.
And we can confidently say that we've taken every measure to ensure the safety of your information - without
sacrificing the speed at which you receive updates of this information. Your portfolio is stored on a secure
server behind a firewall. It is not, however, encrypted. The encryption process slows down the transmission
of data a great deal. Given the importance of timeliness in the transmission of your portfolio information,
we have decided against encryption. In the unlikely event that someone was to access your portfolio, he or
she would have no way of knowing if the portfolio was real, accurate, hypothetical, or a watchlist. |
|
As a Premium Member, how do I get technical support?
Technical and Product Support for Morningstar.com are provided exclusively by e-mail. When you complete
your Premium Membership form, we'll provide you with a special e-mail address. The staff that responds to
these e-mail messages are uniquely trained to answer questions regarding Morningstar.com. E-mail to this
Premium address will receive top priority from our staff. Our goal is to provide a same-day response for
all Premium Member E-mail received by 5:00 PM Central Time. |
|
Can I try premium membership before I make a decision?
Yes. Simply fill out either the Premium Membership or Upgrade to Premium Membership form. Your membership
will begin with a 14-day free trial. Cancel any time during those 14-days and we will not charge your credit
card. |
|
Do you charge sales tax?
Sales tax varies from state to state. Any applicable state taxes will be charged based on the customer address. |
|
How do I cancel my Premium Membership?
To cancel your Premium Membership, please call our toll-free number, 1-866-229-9449. Hours are
7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Monday through Friday, and Saturday 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Central Time. |
|
How do I know when my Premium Membership ends?
Your Premium Membership will remain active until you tell us to cancel it. For your convenience,
we will automatically renew your membership on the same day each month or year, whichever you specified
when you signed up, until you tell us that you would like to discontinue your membership. |
|
If I begin my monthly subscription in the middle
of the month, does that mean I miss out on the first several days or weeks of my subscription?
The best way to answer this is with an example. If you fill in the Premium Membership form on say,
July 5th, your 14-day free trial will begin on that day and will last through July 19th. On July 20th,
if you have not notified us that you would like to cancel your subscription, we will automatically charge
the credit card you provided the amount you selected. Then, your month will go from
the 20th to the 19th of every month. If you cancel at any time during your month, your subscription will remain
active until the 19th, at which point we will automatically change your status from Premium to Free Membership. |
|
Is there anything else I should know about Premium Membership?
Please be sure to read the Premium Member Agreement; it contains important information about the terms of use of
the Morningstar.com Premium Membership. If you ever have any other questions, please e-mail us at: Premium@morningstar.com. |
|
What credit cards do you accept?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover Card, Diners Club or American Express. |
|
What happens to my saved portfolios if I cancel my Premium Membership?
Nothing. The same user name and password you used to access the Premium Membership features will still provide you access to
all of the free, password-protected areas of the site. |
|
Why does my credit card need to be authorized for a trial?
When you start a premium trial, your credit card will be authorized to verify its validity immediately, but
not actually charged. When the trial period ends, your credit card will then be charged the subscription fee. |
|
Will I get a refund if I cancel my Premium Membership?
If you cancel at any time during your 14-day free trial, your credit card will not have been charged, so no
refunds are necessary.
If you cancel your membership after the 14-day free trial, your subscription will remain active until
your anniversary day, then terminate on that day. For annual subscriptions, any remaining charge will be refunded,
prorated on a monthly basis, to your credit card. For monthly memberships, we will stop the automatic renewal function when you contact us.
Your subscription will remain active until the end of your anniversary day and then terminate. |
